ICS Families, here is how the Menominee Tribe was affected by the Menominee Termination Act:
1. On June 17, 1954, President Eisenhower signed the Termination Bill into law. That day, the government closed tribal rolls.
2. No Menominee born after June 17, 1954, would be considered Indian by the U.S.
3. On April 30th, 1961, the land went from the "Menominee Reservation" to "Menominee County."
4. Menominee County was the poorest and least populated county in Wisconsin. There was no tax base to provide essential services such as a police force, hospitals, or schools. Everything needed to close.
Tune in tomorrow to discover how this was reversed and why Menominee Restoration is celebrated. #ICSEagles
