Indian Community School (ICS) announces that Jason P. Dropik / Babaamii-Bines (Bad River Ojibwe) will step down as School Administrator to pursue another opportunity with the National Indian Education Association (NIEA), where he will be the Executive Director. While this marks a significant change for the ICS community, it also provides a moment to reflect on Mr. Dropik’s meaningful contributions to the school.

Mr. Dropik has fulfilled a pivotal role at ICS, exemplifying a commitment to fostering student growth, empowering staff, and reinforcing cultural and educational excellence. His leadership and dedication have left an indelible mark on the school. We are proud that an esteemed organization like NIEA has recognized his contributions and leadership, which speaks to his talent and vision.

The school will hold farewell receptions and an Honor Song to recognize and celebrate Mr. Dropik’s dedicated service to ICS. The receptions will follow music concerts in December, and the Honor Song will take place at the Bear Moon Pow Wow on January 25th. These gatherings will allow ICS students, families, staff and community members an opportunity to express their gratitude, share memories, and send Mr. Dropik off in a good way.

ICS is taking proactive measures to ensure a smooth transition during this period of change. In the interim, the Dean of Students, Cheryl Weber, along with the Leadership Team—comprising Dr. Melissa Deutsch, Director of Instruction; Dr. Mark Powless, Our Ways Director; Jordan Marvin, HR Director; Brian Leibl, CFO; and Siobhan Marks, Communications and Marketing Director—will collectively provide oversight, guidance, and stability. Steps are being taken to conduct a national search for a new School Administrator.

“As he embarks on this next chapter, we are confident that his heart-centered leadership will continue to make a meaningful difference throughout Indian Country. We extend our best wishes to him, while reaffirming our unwavering commitment to our Mission and to fostering a stable, supportive, and thriving educational environment for our students,” said Carrie McGhee Gleba, ICS Board Member.
