school attendance
Students must attend school regularly in accordance with the laws of the State of Wisconsin. Regular attendance is important for student success and is a responsibility that is shared by parents/guardians, students and the School.
The School will keep accurate attendance records.
It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian and/or student to collaborate with teachers to obtain missed work. Teachers will give the student the same amount of time other students were given to complete the work.
Reporting an Absence/Tardy
Parents/Guardians are responsible for notifying the School Office when their child/children is absent and/or tardy. To report an absence/tardy, please call the attendance line at 414-525-6106 or email attendance@ics-edu.org by 8:00 a.m. When notifying, please include the student’s name, grade, teacher, date of absence/tardy and reason for the absence/tardy.
Appointments During the School Day
We recognize that it may be necessary for your child/children to leave school for appointments with health professionals, etc. Please contact or send a note to the School Office prior to your child’s/children’s appointment. Notification should include the time of pick-up and the name of the person who will be picking up your child. We require that you or the person you have designated to pick up your child, sign the student out at the Front Desk.
Anticipated Absences
If students will be absent for trips or special activities beyond regularly scheduled vacation periods, parents/guardians must notify the School office and their child’s/children’s homeroom teacher(s) at least one (1) week prior to the absence (i.e. ceremonies, family trips, etc.). It is the responsibility of each student and/or parent/guardian to obtain course work that will be missed prior to their absence.
Excused Absence
Absences which exceed the legal limit under Wisconsin State Statutes are considered Truant Absences. Exceptions include:
• Documented Medical Excuses
• Ceremonies
• Suspensions
ICS reserves the right to verify absences or truancy-related infractions and to investigate the cause of any absence.
Board Policy 4140 – Student Attendance
