The Cultural Calendar was developed with an indigenous way of viewing the natural world in mind (our way). Among our shared tribal cultures, there are times and places for traditional activities and observances that align with the seasons and movements of the natural world and of the sky world. There are ideal times for hunting, fishing, food gathering, ceremony, storytelling, planting, harvesting, etc.
Our calendar also coincides with the Our Ways Teaching and Learning Framework™ which includes: Tribal Connections, Living in a Good Way, Stories, Treaties, Sovereignty, Tribal Government, Connections to Mother Earth and Indian Law and Policy. In addition, the Our Ways Cultural Calendar incorporates the Seven Sacred Gifts and the words for each season in the four languages that we teach: Ho-Chunk, Menominee, Ojibwe and Oneida.
