guidelines for a safe return to school • fall 2021

For Parents and Students, Grades K4-8

At Indian Community School, We Believe…

Our students deserve an education that inspires, engages and prepares them to achieve their dreams in the ever-changing world in which we live and to realize their unique gifts from the Creator. Our return to school plan is designed to address all of these things, including the physical, social and emotional needs of each of our students. We’re excited to welcome back ALL of our students to in-person learning this year! Our safety guidelines will ensure our ability to focus on academic excellence, cultivate an enduring cultural identity and nurture the Seven Sacred Gifts inherent in our children.

All students will be in-person for learning this school year.

What will In-Person Learning look like this year?

In-person learning at ICS will take place at our school inside the school building and outside on our beautiful school grounds! We will be carefully following a number of important health and safety protocols that are mandatory for all students, teachers and staff members. These protocols will be closely monitored and used in all aspects of school life.

  1. New learning management system (LSM) software will provide a cohesive platform for lesson plans and student assessments. Our new LSM will also simplify the number of tools that families have to navigate and put more information at parents’ fingertips.
  2. Greater academic rigor and accountability of learning through our new standards based grading and reporting.

Safety First

The physical and social-emotional safety of our students and staff is a top priority. ICS will follow guidance from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS), the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI), the Franklin Health Department and Milwaukee Public Health officials, as we plan for a safe return to school for the 2021-2022 school year. Given the challenges and uncertainty that COVID-19 presents, we will do our best to ensure the safety and health of our students and staff. To that end, we developed these guidelines for parents and students to follow. As we move forward, we will be sure to communicate any changes made with regard to safety protocols and encourage you to reach out if you have any concerns at any point during the school year.
