new makerspace at ics!

This year students in grades K5 – 8th, will have an exciting opportunity to engage in our new ICS Makerspace!  Our Makerspace is a classroom environment that supports academic achievement by providing students with the opportunity to collaborate, communicate, think critically and create.  This new approach provides a tangible connection between grade-level content, library/media, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math), research and culture. Students will be utilizing the Makerspace throughout the school year, so we’re very excited to see what they create!

What is a Makerspace?

Makerspace is an area where students have the opportunity to learn and create—especially in the STEAM disciplines—through building, painting, constructing and other hands-on activities.

What can you expect to find in our new Makerspace?

Because the goal of our new Makerspace is to encourage creativity, we are stocking up on arts and crafts supplies, building toys, digital cameras and printers plus, recycled items such as old books, newspapers, fabric scraps, cardboard tubes and more!

We will be sharing photos and stories of what our students learn about and create — please check back in a few weeks!
