Boozhoo ICS Students, Families and Staff!
Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year! Providing a quality and culturally relevant education that supports students, families and the community is very important to us, so we are challenging ourselves and our students toward greater academic and cultural proficiency.
Last school year, we celebrated ten years in our permanent home, celebrated our very first Indigenous Peoples Day, we built a canoe, held Social Dances and Pow Wows, demonstrated literacy through reading and writing, learned about our environment, gave back to the community and grew our 21st-century skills —to name just a few of the incredible experiences we enjoyed! It is through collaborative efforts like these, that make ICS the best and most joyful place for children to learn.
Building on last year’s successes, ICS teachers will be working extra hard to create rigorous learning opportunities for students to improve their thinking in all subject areas. There will be days when students will experience frustration during the learning process, so we will help them see this as opportunities for growth. It is equally important that families and the school work together to help our students face these challenges, work to overcome them and celebrate their progress.
Good communication is key, so we will keep you informed of your child’s progress and encourage your questions. Parents, families and the community will also be able to see many of the amazing things that take place here at Indian Community School through our new website, Facebook page and newsletter. In closing, we would like to extend a very special welcome to our new families including the Class of 2028 — our K4 class! Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns. We look forward to partnering in your child’s education and to a memorable school year!
Miigwech for the opportunity to serve your family,
