Carmen Flores, Board Chair

Carmen Flores began her service on the Board as one of two ICS board members elected by the parents of ICS students. Currently Carmen is an Administrative Assistant at the Southeastern Oneida Tribal Services Office, a satellite office of the Oneida Tribe of Indians of Wisconsin. She was a member of ICS’s Parent Council for 6 years, and a co-spokesperson for two years. Carmen, whose children are ICS graduates, believes that parents should be active participants in their children’s educations.

Sommer Drake, Board Vice-Chair

Sommer Drake’s professional experience and commitment to education led to her involvement with the Indian Community School in 2007 as a parent elect member. She works at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee in the Electa Quinney Institute for American Indian Education, serving as program coordinator for the Office of Indian Education Professional Development Grant and supports the Early Childhood and American Indian Studies Program as an adjunct instruct. Previously, Sommer worked as an Elementary Teacher for the Milwaukee Public School District.

Diane Amour, Board Secretary

Diane Amour began her work as a Board member in 1998 because of her belief that our native languages and cultures are of utmost importance to American Indian people and that the students at ICS should have their languages. She has been active in the educational community for many years, serving on the Wisconsin American Indian Language and Culture Education Board, being a founding and current member of the Milwaukee Indian Education Committee, and working in higher education as the former coordinator of the American Indian Student Services office at the University of Wisconsin—Milwaukee. As a Board member of the Indian Summer Festival, she plans the “Living Cultures of the Great Lakes” area. Diane wants to encourage our students and community to learn their native language and use it every day.

Justin Thundercloud, Board Treasurer

Justin Thundercloud joined the board as a parent elected board member in June 2009. He graduated from Concordia University of Wisconsin in 2006 with a Major in History and a Minor in Educational Studies and currently works at Potawatomi Hotel Casino. Justin is excited to have his two sons attend ICS because of the great cultural and academic opportunities and he is committed to the long term success of the Indian Community School and its students.

Carrie McGee Gleba, Board Member

Carrie joined the ICS board in 2016 and has been working in the Milwaukee Indian community since 2006.  She is a current Board Director for Indian Summer Festival where she coordinates Education Day.  Carrie also worked for Spotted Eagle, Inc. for eight years where she served as the Executive Director as well as the Director of Student Services for Spotted Eagle High School. Carrie holds a Master of Science degree in Professional Counseling from Concordia University and is currently completing a licensure program in School Counseling.  She has served on various community committees and boards including the Urban Indian Wellness Consortium, Milwaukee Indian Education Committee, Youth and Family Project and Milwaukee Area Workforce Investment Board. Carrie is committed to ensuring our students are provided with a strong academic education and cultural knowledge and values in order to secure our many blessings for future generations.
